The Helen Sheffield Federated Girls Club was formed in 1963, led by Dr. Geraldine Pierce Zimmerman. The Club was named after the daughter of the second president of South Carolina State University, Mrs. Helen Raven Wilkinson Sheffield. She was devoted to work in the community and the growth and development of young girls.
The Club's membership is composed of girls in grades 9-12 from Orangeburg area schools who have been recommended by club members and area schools.
The purpose is to foster moral, intellectual, cultural, and spiritual training to its members; to inspire and instill ideals of modern womanhood; to promote an appreciation of the great traditions of pioneer women; to teach the marvelous heritage of our race; to preserve the health and beauty of the body, to inspire the love of God, home and all mankind, and to provide the kind of training and spirit of dedication needed in transition beyond high school.
